As we celebrate International Women's Day, my friends and I find ourselves reflecting on the incredible journey we have taken, a journey that wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support and courage of our mothers. Growing up in India during a time when engineering for girls was a rarity, we faced numerous challenges, one of the most bizarre being the absence of ladies' toilets in our mechanical block. Yet, despite these obstacles, the four of us pursued our dreams and became engineers.🎉
Looking back, we realize that our success and achievements, which seemed almost taboo at the time, are a testament to the strength and determination of our mothers. These incredible women, despite being housewives, shattered glass ceilings and fought against societal norms to ensure we had the opportunities they never did. Their courage came not from a desire to improve their own lives but to give us, their daughters, a life equal to that of men in the world.💪
At the time, the changes they were fighting for seemed negligible, but today, as we look back, we see how significant those efforts were. Our mothers’ bravery and resilience laid the foundation for our success, and for that, we are eternally grateful. This Women’s Week, we pay tribute to our mums (including our mother-in-laws), whose quiet yet powerful revolutions have shaped our lives and inspired us to continue breaking barriers.👭
Our mothers were the unsung heroines of their time. While they may not have sought recognition or accolades, their influence was profound. They navigated a world that often tried to limit their potential, and in doing so, they expanded their horizons for us. They taught us the value of perseverance, resilience, and the importance of education. They showed us that it was possible to dream big and work hard to turn those dreams into reality. They also taught us to have patience for societal changes and how to challenge societal norms at the same time.🌟
We remember vividly the sacrifices they made for us. The long hours they put into ensuring we had the best education, the countless nights they stayed up helping us with our studies, and the unwavering encouragement they provided when we faced challenges. They were our first role models, demonstrating through their actions that women could achieve anything they set their minds to. They also took the risk of letting our fathers know about our rebel ideas!👏
As we honour our mothers on this day, we also recognize that their fight for equality and opportunity is far from over. There are still many barriers to break and many norms to challenge. But thanks to their pioneering efforts, we are better equipped to continue the fight. We stand on the shoulders of giants, and their legacy drives us to strive for a world where every girl and woman has the opportunity to reach her full potential.💖
To our mums and mother-in-laws, thank you for your endless love, and support, and for being the true pioneers of change in our lives. Your strength, courage, and resilience have shaped us into the individuals we are today; we are eternally grateful for that.💖
Happy International Women's Day!
